O distrito de Cachoeirinha foi criado no dia 12 de maio de 1874, subordinado ao munic\u00edpio de\u00a0S\u00e3o Bento do Una. Por for\u00e7a da lei estadual 7-3309, de\u00a017 de dezembro\u00a0de\u00a01958, foi elevado \u00e0 categoria de munic\u00edpio.<\/p><p><strong>Geografia<\/strong><\/p><p>Com altitude de 536 metros, o munic\u00edpio se localiza \u00e0\u00a0latitude\u00a008\u00b029\u201911\u201d\u00a0sul\u00a0e \u00e0\u00a0longitude\u00a036\u00b013\u201959\u201d\u00a0oeste. Sua popula\u00e7\u00e3o estimada em\u00a02021\u00a0era de 20\u00a0618 habitantes, distribu\u00eddos em 179,268\u00a0km\u00b2 de \u00e1rea.[4]\u00a0Comp\u00f5em o munic\u00edpio dois distritos: Cachoeirinha (sede) e Cabanas.<\/p><p>O munic\u00edpio est\u00e1 inclu\u00eddo na \u00e1rea geogr\u00e1fica de abrang\u00eancia do\u00a0semi\u00e1rido\u00a0brasileiro, definida pelo\u00a0Minist\u00e9rio da Integra\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional\u00a0em 2005.\u00a0Esta delimita\u00e7\u00e3o tem como crit\u00e9rios o\u00a0\u00edndice pluviom\u00e9trico\u00a0inferior a 800\u00a0mm, o \u00edndice de aridez at\u00e9 0,5 e o risco de\u00a0seca\u00a0maior que 60%.<\/p><p>A \u00e1rea do munic\u00edpio insere-se na\u00a0unidade geoambiental\u00a0do\u00a0Planalto da Borborema.<\/p><p><strong>Ambiente<\/strong><\/p><p>O munic\u00edpio de Cachoeirinha est\u00e1 inserido na bacia hidrogr\u00e1fica do Rio Una que nasce no agreste meridional de Pernambuco no munic\u00edpio de Capoeiras. Flui em regime intermitente, bem como os tribut\u00e1rios riacho Quatis, riacho do Retiro e riacho Bonito.
